Peggy Carstens, currently a resident of the Pioneers' Home, came to Alaska and worked in a dry cleaning business for years until she began working as a cook on the riverboats. She married Hiene Carstens, a well known miner, and spent the happiest years of her mining with him. She is a charter member of Alaska Women in Mining.
